As far back as I can remember I have been in love with interior decorating and design. I found that with just a little imagination and resourcefulness you can change your immediate surroundings to reflect however you think and feel.
Why not start with a room you wake up to every day. The title picture is the transformation of a master bathroom that helps lift my mood each morning while getting ready for the day. Now, this doesn't mean that my decor choices are necessarily what you would choose and THAT, my friends, is the true beauty of decorating. Choosing whatever colors and finishes that you prefer offers the freedom to create your own sanctuary and make your unique mark on your home.
One of the best and dramatic ways to show improvement is the before and after picture.
Everyone is familiar with the classic yet dreadful 1980's builder's stock bathroom like the one pictured above. Even this small space can be improved upon by cleaning the slate and imagining anew.
While there are some things in life that we can't change such as the weather, taxes, and the inevitable lost socks in the dryer, we CAN make small changes to our surroundings that POSITIVELY impact our mood.
I suppose the reason I'm drawn to the concept of design is that the possibilities to create something unique are literally endless. Decorating itself is highly subjective and reflects one's own style and persona to which no one else can say is incorrect. The psychology of color alone makes interior decorating a fascinating endeavor to explore. By picking certain colors, you can affect the mood of a room from the warm feelings of the red spectrum of colors to the more soothing and calm colors on the green and blue spectrum.
In the last few weeks, I have enjoyed reading articles about New Year's resolutions on becoming better human beings and making positive changes in our personal and professional lives. I would add to that sentiment by recommending small changes to your personal environment to assist in improving your mood and enhancing your daily life.
Cheers to you and have fun making your unique mark on your own surroundings and the world!
Love and laughter,
